It's symbolic.  Al-Qaeda isn't a monolithic group that answered to bin Laden, it's a loose connection (at best) of terrorist groups around the globe.

I've seen comments from several 'specialists'.  The comments range from 'he was the only person that could unify the different groups' to 'this will be a blow that will be temporary but won't stop it overall'.

Personally, I think there will be short term backlash as a result but I truly hope it sends a signal that we will eventually crush these motherfuckers.  I'm going to go the optimist route and say that I think it may have a positive impact for the rest of the world as a result.

I don't think it will bring the troops home and I don't think the attacks will stop.  There will always be terrorism, unfortunately.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since the only thing that was "unifying" the groups was their hatred of the West, and I think that'd be pretty easy to get behind
