Chrome: Multiple instances, different pins?
« on: August 13, 2012, 03:23:33 AM »
Is it possible to have chrome run multiple instances, each with it's own pinned tabs? I want to run four instances and have each one with different pinned tabs. So if i launch one, it opens up specific tabs, and so on.

Yea my searching didn't get me where I was looking to go. I have several websites to manage and spanning these instances across multiple desktops would make it so much easier every day when i fire them up.

Yeah... that's what I do so I can have different gmail accounts logged in at the same time. Seems to work just fine, at least on windows.

I wanted to do it on my wife's mac, but creating a shortcut there is a pain in the ass.

Why extensions? Why not just use different profiles?

Why extensions? Why not just use different profiles?

I see no option for profiles anywhere in chrome, and everything i find is a hack to create and use them. There is some profile management extensions intended to do it for you, and that is what I was trying to use.

Ok... didn't seem like much of a hack to me... create an empty folder and create a shortcut with a certain command line to point to that folder and voila!

why wouldn't that work for linux? You just pass "--parent-profile=/path/to/folder" in the start-up command. Make an icon for each profile with a different path and you can launch them from the desktop.

I wanted to do it on my wife's mac, but creating a shortcut there is a pain in the ass.

Right click on file, click "Make Alias" ?

Might work... the webpage I got the solution from indicated it was a little harder.
