Free VoIP
« on: October 12, 2012, 05:17:51 PM »
Anyone know of a free service that I can use on the computer to call my cell phone? Need to use Audacity to record a voicemail and skype requires $$. I can't use a recorder on the phone, unless you have a suggestion for Android because I have tried several and they either only record the MIC or the quality is terrible.

It makes calls by calling your phone and then connecting you so that's out. It was the first thing I tried. And no luck scoring a free credit voucher from Skype.

You can call from the browser.  I do that a lot when I misplace my phone and want to locate it.  Heck, I do my interviews through it.

Yeah, google chat from the gmail page works if you set it up right. Shouldn't be too hard. You can even receive calls.

Thanks guys let me check that out.

As a side note I was really shocked that Skype would not give me like $1 or $2 call credit voucher. I have been debating lowering our mobile plan and paying the yearly unlimited for Skype to save some bucks, and asked for $1 or $2 to try out the calling service. Nadda.

well that works, now I just need to get the f'n audio stream to record. I would just forward the voicemail to my google voice but the carrier voicemail needs a "mailbox number" not a phone number.....UGH

ok loophole workound thing. Used GV chrome extension to call myself, which made gmail ring. Answered it in gmail which in turn made my cell phone ring. Rejected call, and it went to VM and because gmail saw this as an incoming call from my cell phone I was able to record it, even though it was technically an outgoing call.

Cuz apparently gmail call lets you record incoming just not outgoing. I'm confused as hell but it worked.

Anyone have a clue as to where the recorded calls get saved when you use gmail's call feature?
