When I asked someone to explain why, this is the response I got
Quote
I don't ask you to labourously explain the history and social importance of baseball in American culture. I can't be bothered to try and explain to you football.

Although most likely baseball pales as a comparison since it's crap and doesn't provoke the same passion.

People have already told you the truth on this matter. The only ones disagreeing are unsurprisingly not english and have no insight.
I mean seriously

Yeah, and the guy that made that post is known as being in the top 5% of that.  It's still weird to me

Part of the amusement of that statement is that they are trying to play regular season NBA games outside North America (if they haven't already), they are playing a regular season NFL game in London this weekend (which maybe sparked that conversation?) and I'm sure baseball has considered doing it as well if they haven't already.

So explaining the history and social importance of baseball (or american football or basketball) wouldn't be relevant to why playing an EPL match in the US would be bad.

Baseball has their games in Japan every once in awhile, too.

This was sparked because a manager suggested playing one game (ONE GAME) in the US and people are flipping out and saying they'd never watch their club again.

I think it's probably part of the broader English media habit trying to compete with the US without the US realising there is any competition at all.  But let's face it, the EPL isn't the world's best football league, if anything its probably the most boring to watch.  It's about getting into the league and staying there, playing percentages and not taking risks, the Big Four and all that.  UEFA is really what modern european football is all about.  I don't think the States need a lesson in why football is blah blah blah.  Who gives a fuck? That's parochial bullshit - football is a world game, every country has the right to play it and get involved, the US included.  The English used to carry on the same way about cricket, until the Australian's took back the Ashes in '89.  Apologies to any English lads here, I love you guys but when it comes to sport you're so far up your own arse it isn't funny.

How you guys lost to Middlesbrough is still a mystery though.

Look at Man City go - 100% record at home.  Good on 'em!

stealth, tell me you watched the Chelsea-Villa match today.  I've been watching it while working from home and it's been an amazing game.

Why the heck does Sky Sports insist on playing the theme from Requiem for a Dream during the news?  It makes everything seem so over-dramatic, not to mention being super-distracting.
