Listening through it now...

Not bad.  Some odd holes...but I am not finished.  Maybe they fill in.

I wouldn't call it great literature or anything, but it's very entertaining.  I read that he wrote it as some sort of a middle finger to Heinlein for Starship Troopers.

The King book isn't very good.  I'm going to be start Moneyball since I finally got it and baseball is starting.

It is kind of a middle finger to Heinlen but according to the author, that wasn't his intention. I love both books - 2 sides of the same coin, I say.

Heinlein didn't have a problem with it. There's a followup, Forever Peace, as well.

I could be totally wrong about that - I'm pretty sure it was just some trivia question that came up and I very well could be remembering it incorrectly.

No, people did think maybe Haldeman meant it that way, but he denied it. He was a Vietnam vet. He acknowledged the influence, but was nervous about how Heinlein would take it. Heinlein told him it was a great story. Or so I've read.

Just finished The First Casualty by Ben Elton.  One of his better efforts in recent years (Chart Throb was dire and Blind Faith was a bad 1984 rip off).

Now it's onto Rendezvous with Rama by Athur C. Clarke.

I'm reading Gang Leader for a Day
Finished this the other day.  Really good insight into urban poverty - how it is, how it works, and how people get stuck there.  9/10

Great book - did the audiobook a few months ago.  Loved it.
govtcheez03:  i kind of look for it - i seek out stupidity and annoy it until it either gets better, gets banned, or goes away on its own

Good book.  Less sociology and more economics than I had hoped for, but a more than worthwhile audio book.

I was kind of expecting that since I first heard about the guy through the book freakonomics but yeah I can kinda see what you mean since he was a sociology student.  I quite liked the economic stuff though.

Finished Rendezvous with Rama by Athur C. Clarke last weekend, and have also finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

Now reading The Last Continent by Terry Pratchett.

Book is great and if you like baseball and haven't read it yet you're a loser and should fix that immediately.  Also there is going to be a movie!

I'm just about done with Hemingway's Nick Adams Stories.  It's interesting to read about all these places in northern MI that I've actually been to.  I don't think I "get" Hemingway's writing style, though.
