What's wrong with my laptop?
« on: July 16, 2005, 12:52:02 PM »
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 600m about 1 year ago, and up until recently it's been decent enough.

Over the last month or so, the computer has slowed to a crawl, and the disk access light is on almost constantly.  I naturally thought that the disk needed to be defragged, but the analysis provided by Windows XP's defragmenter disagrees.

Is there somehting else that good be going bad?  Any suggestions on some free diagnotic tools that would help me figure out what's happening?  A plan of action?

Thanks...

Is there a lot running? It might be hitting up the cache/pagefile/vram/whatnot a bit much.

Or maybe the HD is just on its way out.

How much RAM are you running?  I would assume you have a lot of spyware running or unneeded processes.  Download Spybot S&D, Adaware, and clean up your start using msconfig from the Run prompt.
