hp slate
« on: May 30, 2012, 05:38:16 PM »
I was doing some cleanup in my office and forgot I got this at a vendor conference several months ago  :woot: i don't know what I'll use it for yet, other than browsing the interwebs at home infront of the tv on something which has a bigger screen than my phone.

You know, I never got around to making that avatar for you for guessing Bo's name right. Maybe you just send me the Slate instead?

quick review. i think they were selling these for about $100, and it had to be a steal! i've been using it mostly to browse, and for the purpose its been great. i dont see any performance issues. win7 works well. im very surprised at the clarity of the screen; its not like the newest ipad, but still pretty damn fantastic.

a regular and front facing cameras are a fun feature. havent tried skyping yet, but will. camera is pretty low res though.

battery life sucks. about 5-6 hours of use. i blame win7

keyboard placement should be smarter. screen and keyboard should adjust such that the text field i am in does not get covered with the keyboard when i bring it up.

I finally found a good use for this thing. We replaced our bedroom tv with an HD TV - a 39" Sanyo which we found at Sam's for $298 - I can't believe how cheap these things have become.

When I got it home I noticed it didn't have a VGA input; and since my kids watch cartoons in polish on youtube, that would be a deal breaker - and that is where the slate comes in :) with its awesome doc and HDMI out. Got rid of the old laptop and replaced with the tiny slate. Great resolution and HD video :D

Also picked up this Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo making it possible to peruse the interwebs from my bed. I'm pretty stoked about it - my wife, not so much :D

Yeah, right. How do we know you didn't just find some stock photo of a big TV with a tablet below it.
