Topic: External Hard Drive / Hard Drive Enclosure

I was thinking of picking up an external hard drive, then I got thinking about purchasing an internal drive and an enclosure, which would be cheaper.

What are the disadvantages of getting a hard drive enclosure (with an internal drive)?

I plan on using it mainly at home as a backup, it wont even be plugged in all the time.

Considering prices, get it already put together.  I built my own, however had I to do it over I would have purchased a finsihed product.

Newer models are coming with ESATA or network capabilities.
