Microsoft Commercial
« on: September 05, 2008, 11:51:01 AM »
Anyone else see this thing?

I didn't quite get it. If it's supposed to compete against the Apple commercials, they have a long way to go.

Wow, that wasn't even remotely funny or original.   Their only selling point to sticking with Windows is that future PC's might be made out of cake?

It was humorous.  It is in keeping with Seinfeld as this is a commercial about nothing.

Hmmm, I always thought the entire show was billed as a show about nothing.

+1

I thought it was a funny commercial.  Not sure if its effective for anything though, unless their starting a new initiative to boost brand recognition/awareness and this is just the first step.

also, 90 seconds? obviously its a made-for-the-internet spot... so who is the audience?

Well I did see it on TV yesterday.

Us obviously.  We are talking about it which means the commercial was successful.

Nah... the audience is average computer users that the Mac vs PC ads target. It's just marketing and branding.

We tend to base our decisions more on details since we all work on/with computers and pay attention to them. But Joe Schmoe doesn't and just buys primarily on marketing.

A big part of name branding is just keeping it people talking and thinking about it.  While this forum may not be the best spot as everyone here wouldn't be heavily affected by the marketing, we could easily move onto a different venue (watercooler, other forum, etc) and be talking about it and have the simpletons over hear us talking about it.  So in effect we'd become the carriers of the virus.  Even if we don't get infected ourselves we help infect others.

That was a terrible commercial.

..and btw, Larry David* has made 5 more seasons of a show about nothing, check out "Curb Your Enthusiasm"

*for those who don't know, Larry David is the co-creator of Seinfeld and the basis for the character "George"

I've seen a few of these and overall they're not bad. Nothing to do with Microsoft but slightly amusing.

Have any of you seen the "I am a PC" commerical.  Now that is really well done.  I like that they aren't just trash talking Macs.  The message is a lot clearer then the seinfeld commericals.

Yeah... I liked the I'm a PC commercial, too.

It doesn't trash macs, but it is an F-U to the mac commercial. "I am not a stereotype, bitches."
