I don't care if I don't get to use him. I have to share:
J. M. CattellThe guy started the first clinical psyc lab, developed psyc into a real science, encouraged the development of conditioning research through his recruitment and mentoring as the Chair of Columia's Psyc department from 1885-WWI - when he was fired for being vocal of his pascifist beliefs (so cool that he stood up when he knew what would happen), he founded the Psychological review (major psyc journal), and was a president of the APA.
Coolest thing though: At age 23, he wanted to study with the worlds leading psychologist -
Wilhelm Wundt (the father of experimental psychology," a key figure in the development of intelligence research, and in psychometric testing).
Unfortunately, Wundt was in Germany...so with no appointment or correspondence other than a brief meeting 2 years prior, Cattell when to Germany, sat outside Wundt's office until he returned, and said "You don't know it, but you need a graduate assistant, and it's going to be me." He got the job.
Bad ass scientist for the win.
