A man in a leather coat
and a man in camoflauge
greet each other
The sky? Cloudy,
rather, it was clouded over
as if God were trying to clean it
using only his breath and his shirtsleeve.
Two men below the sky
with their nobility keeping one erect
and not quite keeping the other in line
seemed to flee
shortly thereafter
on the coattails of McNamara.
A war, now lost,
will cost a country more than a leather jacket,
more than these two men
and the sum of their nobility.
(Inspired by a picture of Lyndon B. Johnson being soluted by a soldier who had recently returned from Vietnam)
