I was so upset I couldn't reach my 95% snatch (103#)
and only got 49 total reps in with
2 min ring dips
2 min wall balls
2 min HR pushups

that I ran 3.25 miles. Except it was at an unimpressive 10:22 pace, and so now I'm just more upset.

Home for the weekend. A group just moved from the town over into my hometown due to flooding from Irene, so I dropped in for their soft opening.

For time, 5 rounds:
400m run
20 KB swings (35#)
20 butterfly situps
20 burpees

I have no idea on the time. The clock stopped sometime within the first round and got reset. Safe to say over 30 minutes.
But at least I didn't puke 3 times like the new guy*

*the new guy was the youngest brother of people I went to high school with. He's enlisting in the Marines and has been working out with his recruiter. Puking was probably a result of not waking up early enough to eat any food and downing a lot of water before coming in. He did finish all five rounds though.

Yesterday I found if I ever gained 25lbs, I would physically be unable to be physically active.
(run 800m with 25# plate at 6:32)

Crossfit is intense, map props for enduring and sticking with it. My friend lost a TON of weight doing this. I tried it for all of about a week (well, just the warmup... man I'm out of shape) along with Atkins.

Edit: BTW I didn't mean the gym necessarily, but the Crossfit workout (WOD, etc). No experience with the gym.
Reduced fat and now 100% pot free, but same great okay taste.

So I'm nearing the end of my three months. I think instead of paying for the next month and a half I'm here, I'm going to take the weightlifting class they're offering that coincides well with my departure from the area.

Today we did some front squats to start out. I was going off of a max 163.
5x55%, 5x65%, 5x75%, 3x80%, 3x85%, 3x90%

Then for time, 3 rounds of
10 front squats (85#)
15 ring pushups (I used a band)

6:16

No, it's the next one in 10 days. Are you trying to freak me out by reminding me?

They updated us last week with the start times and a new map. Now instead of 12 miles, 20 obstacles, and 2 1/2 hours long, it's 12 miles and 32 obstacles, and 3 hours long. :o

I screwed up my left hip flexors in the middle of a snatch. I completed the lift and realized it as soon as I dropped the weight and took a step.

Adduction gives a somewhat sharp pain, and it freaking hurts to sit. :( :(

Oh hell, running in 15 degrees is so much harder than 45.

5 rounds of
400m run
overhead squat (65#)

That I am too poor to pay for it when not working.

In all seriousness, I think it's a great way to get motivated and excited to work out, but I've also seen many (albeit mostly old) people with scary bad form in a workout.  Supposedly the on-ramp classes are supposed to help introduce most of the movements you use, but it's really easy to miss someone in a large group workout.

That said, it seems most of the Crossfits I've visited are pretty good at recognizing when someone is having large difficulty with a movement and providing alternate exercises or dramatically decreasing their weight.  If there are a few in your area, check them all out.  And find out if they run a particular weekly schedule, ie, if particular days are usually weight days, gymnastic movement days, or named workout days.

The biggest thing I think you would need to worry about (for your knees) would be box jumps, but those are easily scaled. Other things to consider are the high volumes of jumping rope, rowing, KB swings, and squats, but if you can cycle for an hour, those might be less worrisome at low weights.

(sidenote: I'm having difficulty deciding which crossfit to sign up at. The one <1mi from my house has a coach who I formally had as a gym teacher in high school because he was fired for inappropriate conduct with students. The other one 15 minutes away is much smaller and the coach I encountered was sort of young and douchey.)

So I tried Open 12.1 for fun, and I got 67 burpees in 7 minutes. My goal was 70. Boo.
