Please settle a debate between myself and my wife's family:
What order do you introduce new people (like kids) to the Star Wars movies?
456 then 123?
Or 123 456?
-
I said 456123 but I'm not married to it.
It's just cooler to do it the way we all watched it.
-
456 of the original cut and then nothing else.

correctamundo
1997 cut is acceptable as well but anything post Phantom is just wrong.
-
456
There is no 123.
-
456, then it's up to you.
-
Who the heck voted 123?
-
...and why? WHY??
-
you start with Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress"
-
man i know what you guys are talking about, but i couldn't tell you what numbers are which. Never seen them in any order, and it's very confusing

I'm with you there. I'm not really a star wars fan. I *think* i've seen all of the movies, but I'm not sure.
I do know that 3,4&5 are the original trilogy that came out in the late 70's. I think its pretty obvious that those should be watched first. Then, a new viewer should be given to the understanding that the "first" 3 movies were made 20+ years later and are really separate entities in themselves - they (movies 1,2&3) just have a similar setting while trying to tell the story of how the original movies came into being.
I wouldn't tell someone they have to watch the new Star Trek movie that came out in 2009 in order to understand the original star trek series. If anything, that would ruin the experience of viewing the original show for what it was; the expectations would be for a modern-day sci-fi action thriller.

I voted 123456, hence the poll. I would want to watch it all unfold in order, if I was starting out new. But obviously no one agrees with me.

i do. then maybe i wouldn't be so fucking confused.
-
sorry. I see the merit in watching them in order and I think if they all had the same production value I would agree completly.
but they're just to different.
Also, from many accounts, 1,2&3 were not very good movies so I could see that turning someone off from getting through the final 3, which presumably are better.
-
I agree with watching 4,5,6 then stopping... I mean, do we really need a whole trilogy to explain the backstory?

Ha ha... well that blew up in your face.
I understand where you're coming from, and it might be interesting to watch it that way, but most of us are old enough to have watched them in release order, so there's too much nostalgia to have your kid watch it any other way. (That, and obviously a bunch of people hate 1, 2 & 3 so it's not good to start off with crappy movies.)
-
Ideally just 4 and 5, but I guess you need to show 6 to at least wrap up the loose ends.

Yes. But not those half assed, written for tards, pieces of total garbage.
