I'm in, but this sounds tough... and I like the idea of holding up a piece of paper with your name on it in the pic for verification.

What is the exact cutoff date?

4/20 what what

here are my magnifying glass entries - I'm not sure which one I like better. Both give the ame effect though.

The originals and another take could be found here (warrning for dialups: big pics).

//edit, well damn, they're too big to upload
//edit 2: I finally chosen this one for submission.
first:

the runner up: http://members.entropysink.com/axon/glass/g03cut.jpg

BTW the reflected light is done on purpose.....

doesn't look half bad as a desktop background as well :)

The first one is much better... did you try throwing the 'e' in entropy into focus (as opposed to the middle of the definition)?

edit: first one meaning the one you chose for submission, other meaning the runner-up

...and it looks like you were using an autofocus camera (judging from the other pictures)...

>>...and it looks like you were using an autofocus camera (judging from the other pictures)...<<

yeah, I'm using my crappy lil' canon power shot SD100 - its definately not an SLR but it does the job. Have to wait till december (graduation) for a new DSLR :D

>>did you try throwing the 'e' in entropy into focus (as opposed to the middle of the definition)?<<

no - again, look at the above answer...I just used the shitty macro mode this camera has...I just had to hold the camera really still for the exposure time...

Hey major...how do these two pictures make you feel? anything at all?

you're getting the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II, right? if not, tell your parents that it's what the neighbor's kids got him ;)

at first, I thought it looked really cool and professional, but for some reason, after seeing your other pics, it makes me feel like I'm hanging half-upside down and kinda nauseous... I'd suggest lowering the angle a little but, but keeping the composition (other side of the magnifying glass out of the picture).  it may be hard to do with your camera, because you don't have a manual focus option (and even with manual focus, the depth would drop like a rock through that magnifying glass).

i love it when my intent comes through! :) :)

like i told you on AIM...the intent behind these pictures was to make the viewer feel uncomfortable/dizzy/disoriented. I didn't know how to achieve this effect with simply snapping a picture. I tried different angles and positions of the camera - nothing worked. I finally took the picture upside down and from the side (like you see in the original), cut it to the composition I liked, and flipped it (the first one by 90 degress, and the second by 180). :D

that really is a very cool effect (now that I know it's intended)... the only catch with that picture is that you kinda have to know the definition of entropy... even though the picture kinda makes you want to look it up anyway   :D
