Gimp 2
« on: April 16, 2007, 11:40:54 AM »
I was going to go the "pirate" route and download a copy of PS... but I ran across a link for Gimp this morning and I thought I'd give it a chance.  Seems to be alright, but I'm not a huge fan of the interface so far.  Too many windows opening up everywhere and not enough simple wizards for things like resizing/exporting, etc.  I'm used to Corel, which sucks, but I'm willing to give this a good shakedown.

Thoughts from anyone else that has used it?  Is it worth the time to learn it?

WERD!

that's why i don't use it for anything else but resizing images.  took me like 2 hrs to figure that part out, so i can only guess how long it'll take me to learn how to do anything else in it!

I know a couple of people who use GIMP for professional use, and they love it. It definately takes some getting used to though. I use it for my image manipulation needs, but that's usually nothing more than resizing or cropping.

I've used GIMP for quite some time now and once you get over the learning curve it's an excellent product. I even got my non-tech brother using it.

Check this out for a how-to:

Yeah, but Gimp is legally free.
So it's more like:

Gimp < PS

ober, you might try looking into GimpShop too. It's gimp but tweaked to be more similar to PhotoShop.

Or some other solutions:

Thanks tgm.  I'm not really partial to PS, since I've never actually used it.
