Need Suit Advice
« on: March 15, 2011, 04:11:08 PM »
This seems like man stuff, so i figure here is a good place for it. It's time to buy a suit, something I have never done, and I need some advice.

  • Where to buy?
I have never had to buy one. I remember maybe having a thread like this before, but i couldn't find it. I ended up renting something if i did, but i need to buy. I'm pretty sure i need/want a black suit, but i want to look professional. The setting is law enforcement, which is typically black on white, but I do not want to look like a penguin. I'm working on a budget, so places like Mens Warehouse are tempting.

My other concern is fit. Right now I am 6'1 @ 180Lbs but with the P90X, bike riding, better eating, water intake, etc I'm aiming to be back at my target weight of 165. I need this suit in a month, but would like it to fit over time, ya know?

  • How to travel with the suit?

I'm flying to AK for this interview, and have zero clue how to travel with it, care for it, wear it, etc etc etc
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

It should come with a suit-bag. Lay it flat in the suitcase and iron it in the hotel when you get there, or just bring it on board if they'll let you.

Can a suit fit flat in a suitcase? That was my main thing was folding it.......maybe I will just take it to a cleaner when i get there, but i fear them f*n it up. As for on board i would rather not deal with all that

Just make sure you learn how to iron before trying to iron the suit.

I would try to bring it on board. Going to Africa, we had a couple guys bring suits and the flight attendant just put them up somewhere.

Can't really go wrong with black. If you get it and don't want to be a penguin, get a different color shirt and/or tie.

I can't tell you about style. I don't know what's in.

Some people say black is intimidating - you might want to consider the darkest gray you can find.  Don't get fancy with the style - get a 2 button single breasted suit that someone tailors for you
