I went upstairs to find my monitor emitting a burning smell. Now it wont turn on and making a repeating noise. Whats going on?
-
It's fried. Go buy a new one. Seriously. :(
-
a "burning smell" generally means that something is burning.
1) unplug from wall
2) ??? :dunno:
3) go buy a new monitor.

One of the monitors at home stopped working one day while my mom was using it. There was no burning smell, but it just wouldn't turn on. I never did figure out exactly what was wrong with it. Luckily, it was still within warranty, so we were able to return it for another one.

I blew out an old crt monitor once by plugging it into a non-grounded, non-surge protected outlet. I heard a pop and that was the end of it.
although, I did catch a blender on fire once trying to crush ice!
