I just got XP, and boy is this great. Much faster than 98, even on a 400mhz K-6 with 384 megs of RAM. I think the ram has helped out a lot.

While many would disagree that winxp could be classified as 'software' I've decided to move this thread to software anyway.

Congratulations - it's a lot more stable than win98, too. :) The RAM will help - I think winxp will happily chew up 256MB of RAM by itself, but don't quote me on that.

Personally, I'm having a hard time with the annoying windows update/ms download validation - an update that should have taken a few minutes took over an hour the other day.
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,

Welcome to a still-supported OS!  I think the best thing that you'll find is that you don't have to install most of your drivers anymore!

I think I set a new record. Didn't even last a day, hell it barely lasted 12 hours.

I was manuvering to the folder where I saved MS's authentification check and BAM. BSOD telling me to reboot, so I did and now I have a dead computer. WOOT!

Even though XP is four years old, it is still very good.

Somehow the boot sector got messed up, so running FIXBOOT from the recovery console fixed that.

Then for some reason it was reporting me having 192 megs of ram instead of 320, and I somehow fixed that (I'm still not sure what I did, the ram wasn't lose at all).

Yeah. Unless I get to upgrade my computer this winter, I doubt I'll be getting Vista till it's four years old also :) I don't think you can measure Operating Systems in years like other things. Linux is still quite good, and it's 30 years old (or somewhere in there).

Wow XP crashed again, same error and everything. I think my computer is just too old :(

Linux is cool, but I like Microsoft's .NET Framework & DirectX too much :)
