Software for screen capture and audio
« on: January 23, 2015, 08:07:05 AM »
I want to make some instructional videos using some screen capture and audio. Was looking at Adobe Captivate as i have a creative cloud membership but it is regarded as an educational piece of software and doesnt come into CC. Anyone recommend some other software - want to record the screen, record audio and the put the video on youtube, my website etc - even more helpful is if it can be edited in Premiere Pro afterwards

If you're doing a poor-mans youtube instructional video you can use google hangouts w/ screenshare and recording.  Just have a hangout with yourself and record it straight to your youtube account.

If you're on a Mac, this is what I've used at work: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ its got a fully functional free trial period.

We use this at work: http://www.screencast-o-matic.com

The pro version is only $15/year.  I also use GoToMeeting to record my training sessions, but that obviously requires licensing and I'm sure it's not what you would normally use for this sort of thing.  I've used Captivate in the past and liked it.

Thanks guys I will have a look at those. I really like Captivate too but was hoping it was going to be included in my Creative Cloud fee but its a separate product. Depending on the uptake of this I might move over to that at some stage. I am doing some photoshop and photographic training via video - starting with photoshop retouching stuff and linking it to training I offer 1 to 1 so want good quality output.

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Yeah, my company uses Camtasia. I've used it a few times and it works fine, but I don't have anything to compare it to. I also don't know about costs since it was purchased by the company.

MS Expressions is still out there and free. It will also do a nice silverlight player export which allows for chapter tagging and a video thumbnails in the embedded player.

What are the odds?  I needed something like this today.  Thanks Benny!
