Title: iPhone test pages
Post by: hans on January 15, 2009, 03:51:35 PM
OK, so my boss has the same problem on his iPhone 3G (2.2)

I created to test pages.
Page 1 (for me) renders all the text on one line in very small font.

Page 2 has the meta tag for viewport and renders more like what I would expect.

Could you guys with iPhones hit the pages and see what you get? I'm having a hard time finding anyone mention the problem online.

It's like it's trying to render it in desktop mode by default in a view large resolution and I don't see any settings on the phone about it.

That page is worthless. It's not an actual iPhone emulator/simulator, it's just a pretty shell around an iFrame.

I did just find an Apple developer page that might explain my problem. Apparently the default scale value is 0.25 which would explain why I see it very tiny. But it doesn't explain why Ober doesn't have a problem with it and see the same thing I do.

What OS are you on Ober?

The pages appear as you suggest.  The first one is zoomed out so the text is tiny, the second one is normal.

I'm on Vista on my PC... if that's what you were referring to.

I didn't have the issues and mine was an 8GB 3G on 2.2

No, I was inquiring what iPhone OS Ober. But that doesn't matter if you see the same thing I do.

RoD-
I thought you got rid of your iphone? Did you try my test pages?

I'm still in belief that we should add the meta tag to set the viewport to the imode version so it's nicely formatted for iphones.
