im not much of a poem writer but kermit inspires
« on: September 14, 2005, 04:06:30 PM »
fuck the city god forgot
what a pitty, not
all those bastard, hope they rot
maybe you'll calm down if you smoke some pot
take a break, tie a knot
use that rope to hold a thought
above your head
so you can realize no one cares about your dead
let the people stand in shame
fuck the government for not releaving the pain
i am happy for those who survived
but it would of been better if you died
said its true, but hey fuck you
dont you wish there was a category six
maybe then nothing could get fixed
downtown building still stand
if i was god this wouldnt have been the plan
id have you all 6 foot beneath the sand
id wash your house out to sea
one by one to watch you flee
that will teach you where to build a city
laugh it off
fuck the city god forgot

There's no kermit on esink....

While I don't necessarily find the content of this work appealing, I do find it's structure interesting.  I have never before seen the A A A A A A B B C C D D E F F G G G H H I J A structure displayed here.  I wonder if it's childish simplicity is a comment on the simplicity of life and what we really need.  I think it also brings out the childlike helplessness we all feel during a disaster such as this.  I like the chaotic nature of the structure, as it replicates the Gulf Coast after the disaster.  I also like how the structure ends in the same way it begins.  To me, this represents how everything will return to how it was before at the end of the chaos.

The poem is not without some trite merit. It seems one instance where your terrible spelling serves well to underline the immaturity of your infantile mind-set - particularly the torrent of invective which, while it carries the weight of your obvious anger, seems misdirected at your personal frustrations rather than the storm damaged New Orleans and its suffering residents. It seems that it has more to say about you than any transient and unpopular opinions you may hold - I wonder if "use that rope to hold a thought" reflects your unspoken wish that you had strangled certain behaviours in yourself before such thoughts could 'hang' you. Maybe you're the 'city that god forgot' and 'realize no one cares about your dead'.
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?.

I also wanted to note, that I really liked the word  play and visual imagery from the line:

"use that rope to hold a thought"  Though I thought the next line - "above your head" was unnessicary, and that an intelligent reader would discover on their own that you were talking about suicide as well as thoughts that you disagreed with.

i never really thought about suicide aspect, i didnt say around the head
i said over the head, like a lightbulb, for a thought so that it wouldnt get
away from you. that thought being how dumb you our for caring :)
