eragon/apocalypto
« on: December 19, 2006, 07:53:14 PM »
saw these 2 movies over the weekend, here's my scores:

eragon:
compared to the book: 3/10
stand along movie: 5/10

i was really let down with this one.  it just didn't do it for me, plain and simple.

apocalypto - 9/10
one of teh best movies i've seen this year.  although it pales in comparisson to gibson's previous movie in dollar, however i found it to be quite enjoyable. (and yes, its subtitled).

It really disappoints me to hear you said that.  I just read Eragon, I was really looking forward to the movie...some friends of mine who went to see it said they completely dropped the elves from it?  WTF?  If you get rid of the magic/politics aspects, you get Star Wars with a dragon....
govtcheez03:  i kind of look for it - i seek out stupidity and annoy it until it either gets better, gets banned, or goes away on its own

i saw apocalypto as well - great film. I think that having the whole movie in the native tongue really works - it gives it a real authentic feeling. The dialogue is simple enough, so that you don't lose anything in the plot by reading the subtitles. The movie is quite gory at times, but it sure was a trip.

The only thing i didn't like is how fake the jaguar looked.

10/10

I want to see Apocalypto, I'll see if I can go this weekend.  I also saw Eragon, sucked royally.  Never read the book but I read a synopsis and even I could tell they screwed the book over.  Not only did they get rid of the elves, but the dwarves too.

I thought apocalypto was good (if a bit disturbing)

Wife 8/10
Me  3/10

Without giving the so called plot away...

Its bad.  It has so little going for it.  Its the kind of movie that you keep waiting for something cool to happen and it just keeps not happening.  I found it impossible to give a shit about the idiot "hero".  What a dissapointment.  IMO.

Wife found the guys running around mostly naked pretty cool.
