People with rss are the ones that seed things onto social media...

...I'm interested in what Digg's going to try to do here.  Smart if they can pull it off.

Do you think they were referring to using social media to get similar functionality? Because I don't see any way to utilize social media in a way that's even remotely similar to how I and apparently others use rss feeds.

So... oh modern users of technicalology, what should rss feed reader readers be doing instead?
Getting with the times

A lot of scientific journals publish RSS feeds. Not sure what the alternative would be besides going to each website individually and looking at new publications. Not to mention my iGoogle homepage (yeah, still using it!) is mostly a collection of RSS feeds.

yes, that is a good article. I think we tend to forget that almost all of the services we use are indeed free! we would have more room to bitch if we actually paid for them.

We do.  In a round about way we do.  Just like OTA TV, radio, and the like.

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

i don't know if gmail will go away anytime soon.  I mean, they've monitized that for business use; I can't imagine them dropping that line of business.  Although, I suppose they could wein of the free-bee users who don't click on ads and aren't using google+.   Even if you have you're own domain name though, you can run it all through gmail with a business account.

I think I found my replacement: www.theoldreader.com

Looks like pretty much an exact replica of google reader and maybe even better.  :)  WOOHOO!

I've been fine with Feedly. Don't think I'll even need to try that one.
