WTF
« on: April 14, 2007, 07:30:29 AM »
I dont know if this is hardware related, but I think it is. This problem has happened to me a few times.  Ill leave my computer on, and come back to it with a black screen and the following text: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

It doesnt happen often, but its happened a few times already. I ran memtest which didnt show anything wrong with my RAM. I ran a harddrive utility (quick test), to see if anything is wrong with my harddrive, ran fine.  There is a complete test, but that could take several, several hours.

Suggestions? Thanks

I was BTing overnight when this happened this time, not sure if I was the previous times.

Im running XP Pro SP2.

Motherboard: ASUS P5B

I get that when I reboot sometimes, but I know for a fact that it's my RAID card.  Normally I can't just reboot.  I have to shutdown, wait, then reboot.

I don't know what kind of hardware you're running, but I assume it is something similar.  Maybe you have Windows Update restarting it?

When I shutdown, it has been asking me to install an update recently, and I always shutdown without installing, and it is sitll asking me to install it, so I dont think that was the problem.

I have a WD Caviar 400GB SATA II hard drive
ASUS P5B Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz processor.

When it happened before, I updated my ethernet drivers and/or motherboard drivers.  I think there wasnt an update available for one, but I updated the other.

Last night, I only had Azureus running, as well as AVG and ZoneAlarm.  When I started Azureus up after I turned my machine on, it said it has been exited improperly.  There is a ZA update which I have to install, but this has happened before, so I dont think that ZA is the problem.

Anything else I can look into?

Thanks

I would try updating your BIOS or any mobo drivers that could be updated.  Normally this type of error means some wires are getting crossed in boot up.
