Wireless conflict
« on: September 07, 2007, 09:20:07 AM »
So my wife and I both have wireless mouse/keyboard.  Our computers are back to back and most of the time it's not an issue.  However, whenever we're both in there and working on something and she is using her keyboard, it completely blocks my signal whenever she types.  It drives me up a fucking wall.

Her's is MS, mine is Logitech.  Her's has what I would call a "broadcast" signal and I'm pretty sure mine is more directional.  I have tried changing frequencies (hers doesn't have one, mine does) and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Any ideas on how I can stop hers from overriding mine?  The worst is when I'm playing a game and she starts typing and I end up crashing or getting shot because of it.  Makes me want to go wired again :(

You cant. This is why lan parties and such always tell you no wireless devices, it fucks with other players.

mmhmm, i just used it as an example. Thats why i never trashed old optical mice and usb keyboards because some idiot or two always brings their wireless crap. I have never heard of or read of any way to fix this problem aside from changing the freq, but you said that didnt work.

Hmmm didn't you have to pair the device with the receiver?  You'd think that'd be enough if the transmissions were "signed".  Talk about poor design.

Easy solution:  Make her use wired :P

Create a hollow tube out of aluminum foil and run it from the IR port on her keyboard to the receiver on the desk. hmmm, this idea is reminicent of some other technology...

Umm... technically I think there is a "pairing"... but I think they "pair" on the same frequency and Logitech's shitty software won't actually change the frequency

You can change freqs Obe.  I ahve had to do it at Randy's.  It is a hardware change and it only allows tow channels but usually works.

Knuck... I'm using the Logitech you used to have at work... where do I make the hardware change?  Is it on the base?

You use the driver software to change channels. Mouseware, properties, "cordless" and hit the connect button. Keyboard should also have a similar option.

Of interest...?
