Yahoo Axis

This is actually a really nice idea. I've been playing with the firefox plugin. They need to integrate rich content better though, query answers, videos, images.

Saw that on one of my blogs.  Seems like too little too late IMO.

For the company.. sure. I'm more interested in the technology and the idea of different views of web content. If Google had released this everyone would be saying how it will revolutionize the Web. Yahoo doesn't have the same kind of brand recognition to boost their stuff, but it's still a nice idea.

How many other companies have tried to do this and failed though?  Remember the cuil search engine?  Fail.  Nice concept, no one bought into it.  And that was from a team of people that left Google.

Remember there was another Firefox plugin a few years ago that returns your search results in a 3D wall?  No one stuck with that either.

Maybe this one is different.  Who knows.  I just don't see myself using it.

I disabled it cause my firefox was consistently at 70% CPU usage while it was running. Now that's a fail....

I always though Cuil was a bad idea. Who cares if you index 10x more than google, it's all crap I don't want to find anyway.

The idea of changing how we interact with Web content is the future of Web search. That's a given. Google has been experimenting with new ways for a while now (the latest being the Knowledge Graph http://www.google.com/insidesearch/features/search/knowledge.html), they've also done the page preview thing.

The Web is just waiting for someone to come up with something really useful in terms of (re)organizing web content on demand. I'm not saying axis will be it, but it's an interesting idea. I have my own ideas too, who knows, maybe I'll come up with the billion dollar idea (that google buys from me, then retirement at 35, sounds good okthx.)
