Where did the cheap ebooks go?
« on: July 25, 2011, 10:45:01 AM »
So I got my girlfriend the Touch Nook and I have an iPad and was starting to look for some books to get. Lately though as I've been shopping, the books I though were $10-$15 are now in the $30 neighborhood and typically only a couple dollars cheaper than their physical counterparts. When did this happen? And what's the point of buying the digital book for the same price I can get the physical one (beyond storage space)?

Where's the deal these were supposed to be?

Good lord, $30?  I've never spent more than $15 on an ebook and that was the day it came out.  I'd never pay that for an ebook.

Are you sure you were looking at the Nook versions?  I'm looking at the BN top 100 books right now and the most expensive one I see is the aforementioned $15 book that came out 2 weeks ago.  Most of them are $10 or $13 or less

Yeah, Borders is closing all their stores.  I was at my local one this weekend and picked up a few books on sale.  It was a madhouse.

They came out last week and announced it.  Books A Million is buying some of them I think, but the others will be closed

Another MI company down the drain

Yeah.  Boo on that.  Used to love visiting the store on 28th in GR.  For years they were very forward thinking.

Eh, I'd take a B&N over borders any day.

Are you sure?  B&N offers a $25/year membership that gives you free shipping on everything plus you get tons of coupons constantly for 20% off or more.  We've been getting popular books for $5-9 or less, several in hard cover.  It also gives you discounts to the Starbucks inside them (at least our local one has one).

But do they work with Kindle?

I don't have an eReader so I have no idea.  I was only referring to physical books.

Never buy physical books anymore.  Kindle app for me.
