Ear buds
« on: July 19, 2011, 09:50:44 AM »
I know folks in here are occasionally looking for a decent pair.

I can vouch that these are comfortable, durable and sound great.

Price is decent also.

good to know.

also, I haven't tried these but they're half that price and I love their website's user interface:

I am in the market for some new earbuds

I'm in the market for a pair for the Mrs.  I bought her a set of Skull Candy buds about 3 weeks ago.  She was looking at me while she was trying to plug in to her iPod last night and the end of the plug literally broke off.  WTF.

Either of those look good but I like the concept of being able to clip them.  I wonder if they're comfortable?

Skull is total crap.  Bad everything except looks.  That part is debatable.

The Logitechs stay in really well.  The cable over the ear is comfortable too.  I use them when I want noise isolation and they have to stay in.  The only bud I have found that stays in as good or better are my Etymotics.

Dunno about the Sonys.  The clip looks neat.  Kermi used to love the original Sony iPod buds, but I think they stopped manufacturing that model.

One more thing, I use the expanding foam inserts for exercise and when I am in constant motion.  I use the silicone version at work or any time that I have to have them in and out a lot.

The foamies are super comfortable and fit perfectly.  They are nearly impossible to keep clean though.  I just replace them now and again.  The silicone seals last forever.

Also, I'm looking to get a pair of IEM or possibly just musician earplugs. Would you recommend getting fitted for that, or will I be ok with universal fit?

I have always wanted to get a set fitted.  I find that I get an excellent seal without said fitting.  Both Ultimate Ear products and Etymotic products.

After my Bose noise canceling headphones I'm not sure I could ever do ear buds again.

None on Westone.  No experience at all.

Shure has a good rep.  I have no personal experience though.  I seem to remember something about Shure being more delicate maybe?  Check the reviews.  Shure generally makes great products.

I have used these.  Nice.  Really nice on a plane, in an office, etc.

That said, they are not a good fit for me in the gym, mowing lawn, detailing, etc.  Too bulky, hot, and the noise cancelling algorithm blows with lawn care equipment.   Also we have had durability issues with them here at work.  They aren't poorly built, but they need to be respected.

Great deal here on a darn nice set of buds.  Note that they do not kill external noise.

While hot, I find them to be perfect for mowing the grass.  Kills the mower noise and I can listen to music at the same time.  Not sure why they didn't work for you as far as mowing?

Because they amplified the noise rather than eliminate it.
