New Job
« on: February 13, 2007, 07:04:48 AM »
Started a new job.  I'm 5th grade science solo until the end of the academic year...The real trouble wil start after mardi gras when I start using my own lesson plans.

Let me suggest making things burn, pop, and/or explode. It's always in winner in science class.

I suggest teaching in a way that they can relate it to their lives.  For me it was always much easier to learn if I could actually see how the knowledge benefitted me in my daily life or even likely future.

If you have any Obers teach them how to make 1) the wheel  2) Fire   3) rabbit traps.

Thanks everyone.  Right now, I'm there with the teaching I'm replacing, so we're using his plans.  After the break, I'll be solo.  These are regular classes, but it's an advnaced school so all the kids are pretty good.

We'll be studying radient energy.  I'm starting them with light.  I can't do too much burning and exploding once we get started :(, but I'm doing a flame test demo day one to get their attention.  After that I'm going to have them doing expirements almost every day while I watch.  They're young, hopefully they'll love the discovery.

No.  We are on break as of right now.  When we come back Monday the 19th all the lessons will be written and taught by me.  Though like any teacher I'm adapting things that have been designed by others as much as I add new ideas.
