hook up a gallery man. even if u steal my simple "from a folder" script. that way you can just mass dump them in the folder and we can see em all.
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

Loving numbers 1 and 2. Number 4 doesn't quite 'pop' in the way a good b&w should imho.

Working on it.    But Google serves as a good staging area until then.

Played with the levels and contrast in photoshop. It's all about getting black to be black, white to be white, but without losing any detail (I may have lost some detail in the shadow).

Don't get me wrong though, they were great pictures.

Thanks.  This is the type of feedback I like.  When I took the picture I just thought it was interesting.  When I was reviewing the pictures I thought it would make a good B&W since the starfish is in distress a bit.

How does this one look?

I went all the way back to the DNG and manipulated it in RAW format.

it looks much better than the original, but it could have a bit more contrast IMO. I'll have a go at it when I get a chance on my mac (the laptop doesn't have PS).

In b&w processing you're basically trying to make the blacks black. In your original shot there is no black at all - it is gray and therefore makes the image flat. Was this picture shot in RAW?

Yeah it was.  I took 114 pictures and only used like half of my memory card so I figure why the hell not :D  Only time it was an issue is when I looked at it and knew immediately the shot was messed up I had to wait for it to write.  Perhaps I should have waited for the 2G.  It is suppose to have a buffer of 5 RAW images instead of the buffer of 1 the 1G has :D  Oh well :P

I see what you mean by the lack of "black" in the original.  I just set it to grayscale in GIMP for the original.  For the second attempt I used UFRaw and used on of the other b&w settings and then started tweaking with it.

Thanks and will do.

The more I look at that shot, the more I think that the starfish doesn't look right in B&W. How about something like this??
