Any thoughts on Rosetta Stone language software?
« on: December 10, 2007, 01:04:42 PM »
I can not learn spanish.

I took it for one year in High School and got a D.

Then I took Spanish I in college and withdrew after midterms because I was failing.

So I took it again as a summer course and passed it finally.

Then I took Spanish II (also as a summer course) and failed it.

Freaking-A I hate learning Spanish.

I can't escape seeing ads for this rossetta stone software and I checked out the demo on their website. Its seems kinda cool.  Most of the reviews I've found online seem to be positive -- but then, those review all end with "click here to purchase" so I'm not really sure how trustworthy they are.

anyone ever use this? or know anyone who has?  or heard good or bad things about it?

Creo que esta una buena programa. Una amiga (Espanola) se uso para aprender frances y le gustaba mucho. Yo quiero aprender mas. Entonces, si la compras, escribes como es.

I am the administrator for the Rosetta Stone contract here.

From I have been told by the librarian and the people who have used it, it an excellent program.

Keep in mind, the version that is available for the Government is significantly different from the one that is available for commercial purchase, but the lessons are identical (access is different, from I've been told by the librarian and the company).

A friend of mine is looking into buying it as well (Spanish too) - she said it was cheaper to buy like the 3 levels of Spanish as oposed to buying 1 then 2 then 3.

because I don't want to grow old and say there was something I tried to learn and couldn't.

also, the inability to learn it in a classroom is one of the few things keeping me from going back to school and finishing my degree (that and a lack of time and money)

Inability to learn something never stopped me from giving up completely on it.

Ha... I took beginning spanish in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th grades. I took spanish 2, 3 and 4 in grades 10, 11 and 12, then failed the AP test. I'm happy to say that I think I understood the first three sentences. The fourth one I have a guess for after studying it three or four times.

I'd to try to learn a new language. Tagalog for family reasons and maybe Romanian for work reasons. I am just too lazy to actually follow through and do it. Good for you Micah if you can.

Right on. If at first you don't succeed, try something
easier.

I took one introductory class then dated an Argentinian girl for 3 years ;)

The last sentence reads: "So, if you buy it, write about how it is."

Ahh... "So, if you buy it." Makes sense now.

Ohh... and for being able to write an intelligible paragraph after a single introductory class and a girlfriend: :fu:
