On a successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics.

All that remains is to refine the menu for the French athletes to include a range of Finnish delicacies.
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?.

So, you're glad the super-Hilary's last big push with Mohammed Ali to bring the Olympics to New York failed? I actually thought that it would have been a very positive venue for the games, given the tragic events of a few years ago. Still, following that pseudo-logic, Iraq, perhaps, would be more fitting.

No, I think NY would have been a pretty terrible place.  For one, they just had the Summer Olympics in the US in what, 96?  I would discount Spain for the same reason (Barcelona, 92).  Besides, I've read that Mayor Bloomberg didn't want to build a new stadium for the events.  I'm sure there are already plenty of facilities available there, but it's a pretty standard practice to do that.

AFAIK, bloomberg very badly wanted the stadium... it's the rest of NY that didn't want it... there are so many things that need the money like education, fire/police, etc.

Ah, I didn't know that part.  Good to know the people of NYC have their priorities in order

yeah, ther have been commercials for months now to try to get NY'ers to vote against the stadium, which had support from bloomberg, the MTA, and the power authority (I think)

Bloomberg wanted a new stadium on the West Side, where some railyards are now.  There was a real big to-do about it, as most people felt that he should be spending the money on helping New York and not just helping New York's bid for the Olympics.
A sophism of madness...
