I'll actually be building two computers here in the near future. One for me and one for my dad. Dad's will be a budget PC and will most definitely get an AMD (something like an X2 3800). Mine is still up in the air. I won't be getting top of the line CPU, just a couple steps below and from what I've been reading AMD wins in that area.

As for parts the MB will be platform chipset (had that last time with my Intel and it worked well). Case will be an Antec Sonata (ii or maybe iii). I love those things dead quiet. Hard disks are still up in the air, I like Seagate but I need to find one that doesn't make lots of noise when it spins. Low noise is highly important to me (more than uber performance). If it weren't for my hard disks right now you wouldn't even now there was a PC in room. The rest of the parts come from my existing system. Although I'll probably upgrade to a SATA DVD burner w/lightscribe.

Cases:

How about one of these...

1) Antec LifeStyle SONATA II

2) Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case

3) SilverStone Temjin TJ02

Three great choices for quiet and cool cases.

Ok.

Now everyone poke fun at Knuck's picks!

 :D :D :D

I hope these helped ya out.  If not at least maybe they can help point you in a good direction for needs more specific to your own.

I thought you were an audiophile!

Seriously, most of those parts are on the list for my PC. But the soundcard oh man. I recently picked up an Echo Audiofire 12 that will be my main soundcard.

The rest of the stuff I can't fault you on, all good picks.

My Fatality kicks ass. SB for the win. As for PSU, im shocked u didnt mention ultra. Their high watt modulars are the shit. As for ram im a consair or kingston person, in that order. I agree with western digital, and i always use BFG Nvidia cards. Mobo that depends. For intel u want intel, for AMD I always go MSI, DFI Lanparty, Gigabyte in that order. The other stuff basically get wat u want
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

I am an audiophile.  But I understand most people aren't.   :D

BFG is awesome.

GSkill memory is new to me.  We have recently been using it in masse at work in really shitty and hot conditions and it has seriously kicked ass.  Neat.
