The ES Bucks Fun
« on: October 18, 2005, 11:08:47 AM »
Ok it appears that all of us want to be able to earn and use ES bucks.  Heres what I have in mind, please expand on it.

Expected price ranges (just a guess)
low: 0 - 100
medium: 100 - 500
high: 500 - 1000
Very High: 1000 - 1500
Extremely High: 1500+

Using ES Bucks
action (expected cost)
costs will be related to how hard it is to implement and affect
Change a person's avatar (medium)
Change a person's title (low)
Ban a person ( extremely high per day )
Opt-out (high) <- condition:  You may ask to opt-out but someone else has to pay it
Un-Opt-out (very high) <- bring someone who opt'd out back into the fun
Buy someone into a group with restrictions on where they can post (cost?)

Earning ES Bucks
Every post has a chance to earn/lose/nothing ES bucks
For every post others can give or take away ES bucks.  However this isn't fail safe as there will be a chance for the reverse action to be taken.  There is also a chance that the ES bucks will come from their funds.
Everyday a random person will be chosen to recieve some ES bucks.  If that person has not been active the previous day then the ES bucks are put into a pot and carried over to the next day.
Lottery:  During the week people can place some ES bucks into a pot.  Every sunday a winner will be chosen out of those who put into the pot.  You have one chance to win for every ES buck placed into the pot.

Ok so I need suggestions for other things to do with the ES bucks.  Also feel free to offer more suggestions on how to earn them.  Remember it needs some type of disorder to it.

Suggestions that have been voted down
Mod-4-a-day
Password reset

Items that sound good if it can be done without being a horrible pain
Change a person's name (very high) <- If feasible

How about paying to put a filter on someones posts for a day - for example we could set it up so that when -ken- types 'gay' the filter changes it to 'happy' (just as an example). Could be charged per letter so that you could filter all e's to a's for example. Hours of fun for all the family.

Or how about making it so someone else's posts get run through a translator first like english->leet or english->swedish chef etc.

im so incredibly terrified by the whole concept. The only suggestion i have is usernames. If you change someones username and they accidentally sign out, they have to sign back in with the new name. Thats really a pain in the ass when you have something like ride or dance scuba speller. Yea it was funny, but it actually ticked me off once i had to do it a few times.

I say we just dont let others change other peoples usernames.
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

Could we not have a 'Root' username (used for sign in etc), and a displayed username (used for - duh - display)? xcuse my ignorance if this is not possible.

I like the ideas Mike. We need to be able to make people $ES billionaires - then take it all away again at the stroke of a hat.

Other thoughts?

IIRC you can always sign in with your email address.  But I'll have to verify that.

Oh forgot to mention something.  The using is pretty static the way I wrote it.  But its not
Everytime you purchase something there is a chance for a 50% tax to be added.  There is also a chance that instead of deducting the cost it will instead be added.

I swear I replied to this, but I agree with RoD.  If I was pissed off, I'd just change someone's name to "sdlgah;sd ha;lwh- 0[q u0u as'dkj 444" and cause all sorts of problems.

I don't like this idea.

Both of these can be done with SMF by default :)  I'm not sure about having a username and a display name.  As I noted the username will be if its feasible.  Since changing the username requires a lot of database changes

IFF we allow changing of usernames.

I'm not against this one.  Though what type of moderator?  Super, local to a forum (which one or choice?).  Also since mods can see things others can not (like IP addresses) we'd have to address that.

Oh heres one:
Change password (extremely high)
you can not set the users password but it will assign them a random password.  Basically requires them to go through the password recovery option :)

Not a super-moderator. Maybe just a small unimportant forum (dy/dx :p).

That's a stupid idea, and what's more, I don't think anyone would use it.

I like the user name swap better than just being allowed to change the names.

I'm against the "mod-4-a-day" item, especially if it is random and someone like ILV could gain access... although him screwing it up bad enough would be grounds for permy ban.

I like the changing of usernames, but I think we need to put limitations on it.  I would suggest that said person would be emailed when their username is changed and the email would list the change.

My other fear with this is that changing it would be automated, but changing it back would have to be setup on a schedule.  I'm sure it can be done, but that may raise the cost of that one.

I would like to suggest the ability to buy someone into a certain "group"... where they can only post in a specific board or something equally asanine.

:)

I'm surprised no one suggested buying the rights to someone's signature for a specified period.
