I was surprised too. Changed tone or not, I would have figured there were other people that have made bigger impacts.

Yup. That's my thinking, too. I actually love what he's done so far internationally, but as far as I can tell it really hasn't been anything substantial or worthy of recognition, especially not recognition like this. The other nominees must have really sucked.

This award is bullshit. This guy needs to stop apologizing for us, stop media whoring and flaunting his ass around the world, and stop accepting shit. He thinks he is so much more then he is, and his self indulging arrogance is annoying.

Who were the runner ups? That will be the team to take him out.
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

They don't generally announce who the other nominees were.

In 2007 Rush Limbaugh was nominated but lost to Al Gore.  I have his novelty mug in my cabinet "Rush for Peace"

fuckin
What a jerk, realizing that sometimes (frequently) the US does bad shit and admitting it

That aside, this is ridiculous.  He's more admired in the world stage than Bush, but that wouldn't be hard to do.  That doesn't mean he should get the Nobel Peace Prize

he did manage to go 6 months without invading a country... that's sort of like a contribution to world peace :dunno:

...but yeah, it is pretty ridiculous but not all that surprising. The Nobel prizes are all about politics.

Yeah, I don't get it.  But it's clear the 'outrage' isn't so much about him winning the prize as him garnering more recognition for being the Second Coming without having actually done much.

Do you really want to go down this road?

The interesting thing is that many of the outraged people don't show any kind of understanding of why Obama is thought of so highly without having done much. I'm not sure whether it's a case of them not getting it or getting it but just disagreeing.

This applies to most of the things they complain about.  He's done (and not done) all sorts of dumb stuff but instead of that we get complaints that he's a socialist or that he's a celebrity

There's another sense in the US from a lot of people -- including some of those who voted for him -- that he's more talk than action. So receiving an award for peace when it's largely been talk at this point is bringing out the cynicism in a lot of people.

People voted for him because they really did want to see things change, and it's disheartening to see that one of the more charismatic and idealistic politicians in a while, now that he's reached the top spot, finds himself either unable or unwilling to act on a lot of the things that were promised.

Of course he hasn't been in office for a terribly long time, so only time will tell if people are being impatient and unduly harsh on him so far.

Personally, I don't care one way or another about the award. Do I think there are people out there who deserved it more? Probably. Have I ever really given a shit who received the peace prize though? Not so much.

I think it's a nice vote of confidence in our new President though, so I guess that's worth something.

He's a media whore. He hasn't really done a damn thing yet he is always flaunting himself "look at me im cool!!!". This country looks like a JOKE right now, especially as far as military with these things he is doing and trying to do.

I very strongly regret voting for him. Our options sucked, if not for palin i would have voted for mccain though.
