Yeah, I don't get it. But it's clear the 'outrage' isn't so much about him winning the prize as him garnering more recognition for being the Second Coming without having actually done much.
The interesting thing is that many of the outraged people don't show any kind of understanding of why Obama is thought of so highly without having done much. I'm not sure whether it's a case of them not getting it or getting it but just disagreeing.
There's another sense in the US from a lot of people -- including some of those who voted for him -- that he's more talk than action. So receiving an award for peace when it's largely been talk at this point is bringing out the cynicism in a lot of people.
People voted for him because they really did want to see things change, and it's disheartening to see that one of the more charismatic and idealistic politicians in a while, now that he's reached the top spot, finds himself either unable or unwilling to act on a lot of the things that were promised.
Of course he hasn't been in office for a terribly long time, so only time will tell if people are being impatient and unduly harsh on him so far.
Personally, I don't care one way or another about the award. Do I think there are people out there who deserved it more? Probably. Have I ever really given a shit who received the peace prize though? Not so much.
I think it's a nice vote of confidence in our new President though, so I guess that's worth something.
