Rob hasn't been on since the fall out with Mike. :(
-
Farking hell. C'mon lads, say sorry, shake hands and make up. Pretty soon we're not going to have anyone left here at all. Don't just fuck off without saying goodbye or keeping in touch with anyone
Yeah yeah, I know, I had a bad history of doing just that, but I realise now that was very immature and selfish way to behave, especially to people that you've talked to for years.
-
hi.
-
And Govt and ethic and and and c'mon folks.
-
Rob and Mike had a fallout? :idk:
I'm working a lot...
-
i don't post too much, but I'm here :)
-
I'm working out a lot...
Please, stop mentioning your guns.

eh sorta. Everyone seems high strung. You know the balance around here is off when im making sense and telling people to chill out

You are now the forum peace-maker!

fuck who saw that one coming

You have to go out of your way to buy a dell with ubuntu or to install it. Don't make a decision you don't understand.

Erm, no. You just click the "add to basket" button. :dunno:

I appear to use that smiley too much.

I'm sorry Mike. I was being an arsehole. I have my reasons but don't feel much like sharing - not an excuse, just mitigation.
There have been some noticible shifts in this place recently. I think ethic saw them too which is why he left. I have no idea why Govtcheez left - I've tried to PM him but got no response. I miss Betazep. KenF has commitments that prevent him being here often. It's good to see vbp back, and meeper (even though he seems to have changed his name). I need all the non-colonials here that I can get :p.
Anyway, sorry Mike. You don't appear to have been here either since our spat. You were joking - I was joking by putting your post in the dumbass thread. :handshake:
-
Oh, and I miss Aran, and Groovitude. I miss Overthrown (who doesn't seem to have been about lately). Bassy. Prelude. My mate Gades (who was about for a while). There was that wierd Australian bloke as well. [stealth] or something ;).

Now you just made me sad...
ethic! Help us shift back!

I think the whole "cop a killer" thread really threw the karmic balance of this place off hinge. ethic obviously has some stuff going down, as does 'cheez. Maybe personal, I don't know. I'm sure we've all been there at one point or another.
-
yeah, I've gotten peeved and left for several days at a time in the past - but I always come back. I think Cheez just left because Obama won so he has nothing to fight about any more :D
I think part of the problem is that a lot of the core group that started out around here has simply "grown up" so to speak. Their getting more involved with things like families and careers. Its understandable.
Eventually I'll be the only one left - and i STILL don't have admin powers!
-
I think this is just our down time again - we go through it periodically.
I talk with GC and Beta on facebook - although GC has not been on too much lately even there. Maybe he has too much work :dunno: but that never stopped him before.
Does anyone else have an account on SA? does he post there?
Also, I think it is all RoD's fault. I've seen this coming some weeks ago. That is why I really hoped he would go to the navy :D
-
My fault?? Oh I see god forbid rod grows up :p
As for ethic he came back from his trip as a whiney little asshole and got called out on it, not just by me. He needed a time out.
-
Bah. The "I'm too busy with life/work." crap is only good for so long. After that it is obvious that the lack of posts stems from elsewhere.
-
I think for govt it is probably true. All the travel was really weighing in on him too. There have been times i have taken a break from here because i felt ashamed by the mess my life was in (im used to it now) and didnt want anyone to think less of me.
We all have our strange reasons but its the natural order of fluxuation. Alot of those on here with familys are the ones that dont vanish. It's those of us that are just aggravated and lonely that lash out and cause the vacations lol.
-
Rumor has it that Govt is having a secret love affair with a member of another species and can't be bothered by us "normals".
Wait...
Are bigfoots another species entirely or a sub-species.
Hmmm....
-

How dare you <>. I'm still as childish as I ever was :p ;)

so wait, ober and govt's affair is a secret? :dunno:

i don't post too much, but I'm here :)

I don't like the thumbs up in that smiley....
+1.
Things will turn around, we go through cycles like axon mentioned.
-
I don't like the thumbs up in that smiley....
FIFY

hahaha

I read a lot more than I post. I'm actually on here several times per day. I rarely check from home lately. I'd rather play video games or something most of the time.
And it has been "life for me lately". My wife and I are both "nesting" for kid #2. I'm working on finishing the basement and getting #2's room finished and taking care of the wife and trying to keep #1 out of trouble. By the time the day winds down, I'm spent and all I want to do is crash in front of the TV and do something mindless.
But I think someone (axon?) was right... we go through these "slow" periods. We just don't have enough people here to pick up the slack when a few let up a bit.
So how do we find new members?? Maybe we just need to be more interesting!
-
It's hard to come across new members when its an unadvertised tight knit website for a closed group of friends lol.
I want some frosted mini wheats
-
the answer is pr0n.
-
Remember when this place first went up? Anything x rated or that referred to piracy got ober all goverment paranoid :rofl2:
-
Not government paranoid... hosting paranoid. Post all the pr0n you want... but don't post things like key loggers or obvious pirate shit. I've been shut down once for that... never again.
-
oh yea it was hosting lmao
-
>>Post all the pr0n you want<<
Are y'all ready for some hot, sweaty man-on-man action?
Cuz that's what I'm hearing!

hmm i pop on for the first time in ages and see this - bassy=chimaera - i forgot i had changed the name couldnt log on and have changed all my email addresses, and since I was last here I have moved house, gone mad with contracting (ie travelling way too much) and lots of other busy stuff. I'm also on facebook a lot (the url is in my profile i think if anyone wants to add - just let me know who you are :) )
Yep i must stay in touch especially as a lot of the oldies are still here - though everyone seems to have changed their name how am i supposed to know who is who -.- .
I havent heard off gades in a long time - he'd gone off back to spain and was doing his boat thing - sounding very busy
-
OMG! Bassy - how the devil are you? Still driving sporty open top cars around?? I used to be RobR...
-
heya nope fraid no sporty open top cars at the moment - driving a suburu imprezza wrx these days. I am going to have to change my name back to Bassy though as cannot remember this chimaera thingy (and i keep spelling it wrong :0 )
-
>>suburu imprezza wrx
Pffft. Slowcoach! Bet that's fun in teh snow!
-
Bassy!!!! I'm still me... I don't think that has changed. Good to see you around! I hope you can stop in more frequently.

Ouch... I think it's time to cut back on the excitement of people returning to the fold... ;)
Yes, yes I am. :|

So how do we find new members?? Maybe we just need to be more interesting!
the answer is pr0n.
That's how we got Dalamar!
Seriously, though, Cshot only posts in fantasy or draft threads, as has Dalamar so far. Other than those two there have only been three new members in the last three and a half years (micah, me and KnuckleBuckett).
To get new members you could "advertise" on other forums you frequent like CBoard, but do you really want it to be like it was when people like ILoveVectors were trolling around?
-
Cshot was about in teh f*a*h*a*d*e days...
-
he pops in here for fantasy football season
-
It is starting to get rather stagnant around here. That seems to happen to most forums after a while, but then you let new people in and it doesnt quite feel so "homely" anymore...
-
the problem with this forum is that we have successful people, and total failure. Ok failure its just me. The point is we have no middle ground people really, and those we do are pretty damn busy. So we have:
Successful + Busy
Getting Successful + Busy
RoD
And since im poor 75% of the time, i vanish too. lol
-
"Where have all the coowbbooyyss gonnneee?"
All these years and we still never had a successful meetup, did we?
-
that would be a no.
the last time i remember it being talked about was during the dark ages (read: f*a*h*a*d*e days).
-

Hasn't enough time passed for us to able to talk about that place without it decending into anarchy or anyone being banned or getting upset?

^ ban
 I think its just more of a running gag now and nobody wants to be the one to kill it
-
Where would this place be without the RB hatin'?
We'd all have to pick on ethic, then when he left RoD...
-
Because that isnt the order of things now?
-
I've taken to watching TV shows as procrastination rather than online. It seems to help as one TV show = one unit of procrastination, I can use it as a reward like "Do one more hour of work then you can watch a show." Is it just me that is that poor at self motivation?!
-
im watching tv right now....
-
Fair play, it just seems a little silly to pretend the past didn't happen and there being some ban on mentioning how we all met in the first instance (the C Board not withstanding). I don't think we'll get more members here unless it's by word of mouth. Or Ober shaves the URL into his back and parades shirtless around his local mall.
-
lord knows he has the size and hair for it haha
i havent seen anyone banned over it in years
-
You mean people really got banned for it?!?
-
in like the first 3 months of esink ya, depending on what was said. i know i got banned once for testing mike on it.
-
Banned for mentioning flashdaddee? Isn't that a little absurd?
-
Maybe I got that wrong, sorry guys, I might have meant threads being locked. To be honest, I can't remember any bans.
-
Banned for mentioning flashdaddee? Isn't that a little absurd?
You have no idea how tempted I was
-
...and like most other things here, if it ever was done then I suspect it was for it's humour value as much as anything else :dunno:.

:tumbleweed:
it appears we've all been pretty busy recently....
:scratchhead:
-
No shit.
-
Yup.
Swamped at work. Heaviest work of the year coming up the next fifteen or so days.
Busy at home too. Visitors galore from out of state, getting the new car, getting the new car serviced, selling the minivan, detailing the new car inside and out, cleaning up the garage, all sorts of misc summer activities, and still two customer vehicles that I have to fit in the schedule as soon as I get a couple "free" weekends. Also I am taking on a few more responsibilities in the TF2 clan that are taking time to learn, understand and manage.
-
busy here as well :) not too much time for the pc. I do lurk though ;)
yesterday my wife's friends had a surprise baby shower for her. It went over very well!
-
I've learned more about email in the last two weeks then I ever cared to know.
-
Disassembling shit.
-
Been discovering my limitations at web design - not the tech parts, just the ability to put a page together that doesn't look truly awful.

Curing cancer.

Curing cancer.
I was about to laugh cuz I thought it was a funny joke, then I realized you might be serious.
-
Family, softball, house, work, side-work... enjoying the weather.
-
oooh, I do softball too - my team has not won a game yet this season :( however, the "slaughter rule" was used only once! :D
-
We're 12-3 (lost 1 of 2 yesterday by one run). I think we're in 1st or tied for 1st in our league and should do well in playoffs this year. :)
-
Skipping softball this year to watch the kid. I'll probably play again next year. Other than our one amazing run through the playoffs, we basically have similar results as axon's team.

Considering the frequency that these stories come up one would tend to believe there is a grain of truth in them.

Theres a frequency? Don't really see how being that there has only been one instance. Unless your counting the break-in down in florida, but i dont.
-
Work has been keeping me away.
That should be alleviated rather soon when I start my new position as the System Administrator for my office - less work, no purchasing, less stress. A Win-Win in every way.

We need a "oh yes I did" smiley...

We have the worst softball team ever. Have won 1 game, and gotten mercied in all but 2 of the others
-
Also I'm busy with work and buying a house and tbh this board is kind of boring right now
-
woooohooooooo we won a game today! it was tied at the end and we went to sudden death - got two runs and won! woooohhhhhoooooo

Your talking about the same incident. Really my dealings are nothing compared to some other peoples. Drunk driving, assualt, posession, multiple driving while suspendeds, and even fishing without a license which has got to be the stupidest fucking charge i ever saw...
-
No, no, these are two different incidents. Oh and nice try with the "I'm not as bad as some" argument.

Well I'm less busy now, I passed my test, I can now drive (legally) on my own. Fucking huuuuuuuuuuugeeee relief. I have been putting it off for so long, it's great to finally have a manual license.

Enjoying the summer  Hiking Long's Peak tomorrow at 1am :D
Oh yes, and work...soldering, assembling an enclosure for my measurement system, programming, writing my report, presentation practice, etc.

YAY I'M FINALLY PACKED AND LEAVING PITTSBURGH (until tuesday)
-
Had a bad dose of flu about 4 weeks ago that knocked me out for about 2 weeks (not swine flu)
been catching up since then so:
work
trying to sort my house out (i still have one room full of boxes that i havent unpacked since i moved in 2 years ago)
been doing some horseriding
done some more Open Uni work (decided on taking 3 courses this year and its whacked me out)
built a website for a friend of a friend as part of my best mates idea that we were doing this properly since when he has spent each weekend out partying whilst i have build the website (so not a fluffy bunny on that one)
i think i now need a holiday

Softball playoffs started yesterday... my team is the only team that hasn't lost a game yet in playoffs (we've played 3 already). I can TASTE a championship.
-
You had damned well better win! None of the other teams have a bigfoot that with the help of a hairpin (keeps the eyes clear) can hit a home run every at bat. And in the rare case you don't, what is it? Three steps to each base? Do the fielders still run from you? So many advantages...
-
we're in the playoffs too - the first game is tonight at 8:30pm.....I have high hopes!

I... I have nothing to say to that.

My shitty ass softball team won one game this year. Thank GOD our last game is tonight (I haven't been in a month)

Nope, I've been out of town for (almost) every game since the beginning of July. I've only skipped one game.
-
You misunderstand... that image is apparently from a group of people trying to quit smoking. Smoking kills. Your team is shitty. Since it's July, it's a good thing you haven't played.
So did you win?

one could theorize they sucked because you were not there to carry them, superstar.

So today I had some fun. We switched over to the new email system using Google Apps. So we had fun trying to explain how mail will be delivered the next few days as we had to change the MX record. Luckily it only effected our tech team so it was a bit easier.
But after the switch over I found out that I hadn't included our webserver in the whitelist for relaying emails to outside domains. Then as I looked through the logs and through the archiving logs I noticed that a lot of spam hits our system. The original plan was to just archive it, send it to google, and let google filter it. The problem was that all the spam going to the domain was going to accounts that don't exist.
So in the span of a couple hours I had to figure out how to query google to see if the address was allocated, cache those results, and test it without the use of a test box (the test box is currently being wiped and reloaded).
All in all it was a fun day :D

I have read that twice and I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. :)

Yesterday, we had a sweet-corn boil and hotdog grill at work.
The grill went well, but the propane regulator for the propane burner failed. So the crack emissions team gathered a few fittings, some stainless tubing and a bottle regulator and a couple of hose clamps. Had it working better than new in about 20 minutes.
Had a nice time.
-
Nice... man I miss shutdown!
-
we lost our playoff game :( our pitcher got thrown out in the 5th for arguing with the ump over a foul ball. Good times.
-
So did you win?
Hahahahahhah hell no
The playoffs are next week though - I might be there for that.

I've been gone all weekend. At a wedding in new Jersey. spent most of my time just driving in either heavy traffic or heavy rain.
-
Nope... our league only does t-shirts.
-
...did my "unread posts" link stop working again or are we heading into another summer slump?
I know I've been busy lately - we moved a month ago and I only got around to hooking up my personal computer last weekend. Even so, I feel like I haven't had a minute of free time for the last couple months. On top of that I've been slammed at work lately and find myself spending my entire workday actually working.
-
You moved again? Im active but heading for a very busy few months. We are finally living in Missouri and getting things going.
-
Busy as fuck here. I rarely even hit this board much lately.
-
Very busy at work and home. No complaints though.
-
We just moved, too. Process took a month and we still ran out of time. I'm sure I'll be on more now that it's done, though.
-
Still here...just lazy
-
I have always despised the process of moving. I can't think of many typical life acts that I dislike more.
-
Busy as fuck here. I rarely even hit this board much lately.
This.
-
My company got bought out and the new company is going to clamp down on Internet in a big way. Plus now that it's getting nice out I'm trying to spend less time online
-
I have always despised the process of moving. I can't think of many typical life acts that I dislike more.
Funny, I can't say that I like the details of it, especially now with a wife who buys things and kids that need things, but since I left my parents house 16 years ago I've lived in 10 different places. This last house was my longest at 4.5 years. I don't like the moving of things, but I do like the feel of starting fresh with an empty house/apartment. I think we've accumulated enough crap that I won't get that feeling again until I'm an old fart, though.
-
well i had to move back to Illinois (living in chicago now). For some reason that i don't really know about i lost my security clearance and thus my job with uncle sam. This whole moving process is too stressful, hopefully Chicago will work out.
-
Transitioning into summer research. I'm actually less busy now but also way less productive.
-
Moving now. It sucks. Especially during summer exams.

Moved a couple weeks ago. Sort of getting the hang of working normal hours. Still not done with thesis.

well i had to move back to Illinois (living in chicago now). For some reason that i don't really know about i lost my security clearance and thus my job with uncle sam. This whole moving process is too stressful, hopefully Chicago will work out.
where in chi are you?
Between wicker park and east village. You near chicago?
-
Plus now that it's getting nice out I'm trying to spend less time online
This too, especially with all the new land to explore. My sister alone has 26 acres, and there are TONS of noncommercial caves to explore, trails and mountain paths, just so much. I'm in the works of a deal right now to get Ashley a small horse she likes and a large (16.5 hands if you guys know horses) Missouri Fox Trotter for me.

That sucks on both fronts. I really feel for you being in Illinois, I haven't had to drive through there for the first time in two months as of the last week. I hate it.
And how come you have no explanation? Seems even uncle sam should have to tell you SOMETHING when they fire you. Might be total horse shit, but something.

im in the nw burbs; mt. prospect-right by ORD.

I had an interim clearance and they just called me in and said that it had been suspended. They don't really tell you or give you any reasons unless it's an actual denial. I think it's because i have a lot of relatives living abroad. When you do those clearances you basically sign away a lot of stuff. At any rate i think there is a process to get access to my "investigation file". I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

That sounds awesome. I went horseback riding for the second time last summer on a friend's ranch in the Sangre de Cristo range and it was awesome, but since I don't have a horse I'll settle for some hiking and rock climbing this summer
-
I'm SUPER stoked about the caves. I have been on the tours of the Mark Twain caves, but to go explore on my own is going to be awesome. My sisters boyfriend has been hiking, exploring, etc for years so he will be going along. He's actually done the Appalachian Trail twice.

busy here too. Nothing new, just day to day stuff.
What I want to know, howvere, is where the f is ethic?

a lot of times the security manager doesn't even know the reason for the suspension - but, like you mentioned, you'll have to request the investigation file to see the reason.
if the security clearance was built into the PD, then a suspended interim would ruin your chances.

What's a PD?
Anyhow i gave up on trying to pursue a clearance for now. Decided to do commercial work for the time being.

I was wondering that too

I talked to him on steam the other day. He's still alive
-
I've been working, wedding planning, and oh, spent the last couple of weeks traveling around Greece =)
-
Transitioning into summer research. I'm actually less busy now but also way less productive.
+1
I have way less to do but still manage to get none of it done. I don't think I've worked on my thesis research at all in the past 8 months. Need to get on the horse!

wedding planning
Is this something announced a long time ago and we all said congratulations and I forgot... or is this new info slipped in slyly?
-
I think I mentioned it when it I got engaged, that was well over a year ago though. I don't seem to see it in a board search though... maybe I announced it at that other e-sink I post at....
-
maybe I announced it at F*a*h*a*d*e
FYP
-
:D nah, wasn't that long ago.

Add me to the busy list. Been trying to go hiking a lot (gotta get that exercise in somewhere), right now I'm doing these 6:30am M-F(ish) hikes. Pretty great.
Other than that, I was in a relationship for like 6 months that sapped most of my time. Got it back though! ;)
-
>> I was in a relationship for like 6 months <<
Dooo tell - lemmie get my popped corn ready :D
O, and add me to the "on the complete opposite end of the world" so my hours are pretty much the opposite of everyone else's (for the most part).
Plust I'm still trying to get the hang of how the new org does business

-
How is everyone?
Great except I've got some abdominal pain, confusion, a headache, anemia, and I'm irritable. Been that way for a few weeks but I don't know why.
-
I'm a bit sunburnt from sitting in a tube earlier today. Had a fun trip to Vermont without the internet to bother me.

It's the LEAD!
Spent a few days in Salt Lake City last week on a business trip. What a waste. I could have done my part over the phone. Oh well.
Had a good 4th though and spent a lot of time with the family. I feel a little recharged now. :)
-
Dude, you weren't around. Besides, I would have only had a few hours on Wednesday evening to meet up. I flew in late Tuesday and was out first thing on Thursday.
-
Bah...don't feel bad ethic. He pulls that shit with me all the time. :D

hey remember when you literally stayed in the hotel across the street from my office?
-
I remember somebody telling me it might be too weird to meet up in real life....
I think it would have been a blast.

He didn't come visit me when he was in Oregon. You could've couchsurfed at my place!

Do I get an extra half of a point for sending a relative as an emissary this spring?

> your move. Frozen Synapse. It's been your move for 3 days

Started my new job today. Well new in that I changed positions. 40hrs a week @ 19.50/hr is just fine with me. Benefits and all.
-
I've just left my last contract (well about 4 weeks ago). Taking a bit of a break atm to get my websites done as well as getting more portfolio work done (as trying to start up a commercial photo business as well) - only problem is that I thought I would have time to do lots of things plus chill a bit but I still seem to be rushing about (though i have finished setting up my mini photography studio). This week i am helping a friend find a flat to live in (and probably helping him to move if he finds one) - so there goes the portfolio work. At this rate I wont have got anything done before going back into a contract.
-
a dusty tumbleweed just went by!
Like a ghost town, what do you guys all have lives or something? LOL
-
I have been sick the past 3 days or so. Plus I've been refinishing my basement on weekends and some nights. Making good progress! Haven't had much time otherwise.
-
Been working on the boat this weekend. Made some improvements like added another battery and a battery charger/maintainer. With that I had to rewire almost the entire boat - it was a fun exercise. Added a radio. Cleaned and lubed the motor. Started it up yesterday, no problem. Added a remote control for the trolling motor also. Got a couple more rod holders and some other accessories. Hoping to put her in the water for the first time this Sunday!
One last thing I will do in the coming weeks is add a bench so that my wife is comfortable when she goes out with us.
-
Something something baby and first birthday and accreditation surveys at work and sleep.
But for what it's worth, I think it's been pretty active on here lately!
-
That's a good point, it has picked up a little the last several month. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm writting 2 essays a day about my personal drama LOL

hats off to you, Ben. In the past I did all the work on our house, but this time I really don't want to do it. My wife has been asking me to replace all the interior doors, the exterior door as well as the trim for like a year now. Three months ago I got all the old trim down, I started repairing drywall....and then stopped. I rather spend the little free time I have doing something else.
I never really hired anyone to do anything around the house, so it was (is) a new experience. But so far so good! We had our floors redone a few days ago, and the next crew comes in to do the doors next week. The painter comes in a week after that.
The labor is surprisingly affordable. For example, the floor sanding and clear coating was $550 all in. I doubt I would be able to do it cheaper my self. And it was all done in a day!
so yeah, I'm blessed that we can afford it - house needs a bit of a spruce up. After this project we'll tackle one of the bathrooms.
-
both of you:
:postpix:
before/after?
-
I'll post some after it is all done.
Can you guess what color front door my wife picked?:D
-
I'll post some pics when I'm done too.
The reality is that I didn't plan to do all of it myself. I did all the demo work and painted the ceiling myself but I tried to hire out the drywall work. The one company I contacted couldn't come for 6-8 weeks AND wanted ME to have all the supplies in the basement. WTF? Plus all in it was a little bit of framing, hanging about 11 sheets of drywall, mudding, and priming the walls. They wanted 2K for the labor alone. Fuck that noise.
-
Contractors do not want that type of work and have become lazy, arrogant, and overpriced. Find a good one and they are booked forever. It sucks if you don't have an in with someone.
-
finally got the front door installed - wooohooo....it only took like 3 months - mainly due to shitty handling by home depot. But they are in. my wife loves them, so I do as well! :)
