Are you guys still disabling your SSID broadcast for home WIFI? Does it really even matter anymore with all the tools available?
I only ask because I've been having issues with my Chromebook connecting to the WIFI after suspend and read that it might be the SSID hidden where it doesn't like to connect after. So I temporarily disabled it and now my WIFI connects right away again. I'm pondering leaving it broadcast since I don't think it's really that big of a security thing anymore. If it's secured what do you guys think? I haven't read must on it lately since I've generally always disabled the broadcast.

I used to disable but I have random people come over that connect and it's a pain to have them find it AND type in the passcode. If I was in an apartment building or didn't know the people within range, I'd be more concerned.

I broadcast it. As you said, there are too many each to use tools that'll find them anyways.
-
Funny... I don't remember ever hearing that you weren't supposed to do that.
-
It just makes your network harder to find. It a teeny bit of extra security.

Well, yeah. I guess I just didn't realize that people hacking into home wifi networks was such an epidemic that hiding your SSID was being suggested.
:dunno: ;)

I was wondering why there were a bunch of people sitting in my front yard in lawn chairs with laptops.
