Micah I think you might be interested in this.
I recently learned about a hardware tracker called the DirtyWave M8 (
https://dirtywave.com/). I guess it's based off a project that runs on a GameBoy (and emulators) called LSDJ (
https://www.littlesounddj.com/lsd/index.php). Cool thing is LSDJ is free which is awesome and allows you to make old school chip tune music, but the M8 while similar in concept is pretty robust in capabilities. While the hardware unit is a bit expensive (worth it IMO) they have a headless firmware (
https://github.com/Dirtywave/M8HeadlessFirmware) that you can run on your own Teensy 4.1 (~$30) and link it to either a desktop app for osx and windows, or a browser app (
https://github.com/derkyjadex/M8WebDisplay).
I ordered a Teensy 4.1 off Amazon to play with before seeing if I like it enough to preorder a hardware unit for the next run of them.
Either way, some interesting projects for music folks.
