Wow, never read this thread as I thought the movie was crap and way over-hyped. I thought it was just slightly bad when I saw it but I've hated it more and more the more I've heard about it since. None of the story was believable or particularly interesting (or original), and I saw nothing special in the visuals (I saw it in 2d though). Anyways, I don't go to movies for the graphics, but I was impressed much more with the aliens in District 9 than the cartoony/cheesy blue people in avatar. The whole thing was basically a crappy disney movie. Speaking of which, I saw this posted elsewhere:

Seems maybe ethic liked it, though.

And the reverse is not necessarily true (that if you disliked Titanic you'll dislike Avatar).

In that case you might like avatar. Don't compare them or anything, I just felt like they had a similar feel even though they were pretty different.

Pretty images don't make a good movie alone.  I found the story and characters unoriginal and quite lacking.  So much so that the graphics don't make up for it.  And they can't even claim that it was a low budget summer action movie.
