Title: Bio of a Space Tyrant

Stumbled upon this series again.  I read the first book in middle school.  Decent series (5 books) written in the early to late 80s.  Written as an autobiography (big surprise I know) and set after man has colonized the solar system.  The political landscape mirrors the cold war era.  At one point it discusses the challenges of balancing a national budget even with tyrannical control over the government.
