I can't even remember the last time I physically plugged a computer into a router. I've been a laptop/wireless guy for a long time now.

I may get  a set someday also.  I like the idea of having reliable internet access at any outlet.

Been thinking of snagging one of these someday soon...

A lady I have has one of those and absolutely loves it.  But the only question I have is why would you get one of those?  Most other devices have the applications and services built in now.  Most modern TVs, some DVRs, etc.  My new Tivo will have everything the Roku can do.

Why do you have a lady.  Does Samwise Bigfoot know about said lady?

With that out of the way...

Your Tivo has a monthly fee and cannot do Hulu Plus.  I don't want double fees.

The 'lady' is pushing 60.

My Tivo does not have a monthly fee.  I bought a lifetime subscription.  I'm not sure if new members have that option or not.

If you get the Tivo from your cable company, you can't do Netflix or Hulu Plus.  But if you get it directly from Tivo, you absolutely can: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetreviews/hulu-plus-nixed-for-cable-provided-tivo-premiere-dvr-boxes/20920

:D I have a lady, too. But she doesn't have a roku. Looks cool, but I'm hoping my Google TV allows hulu and such soon so I don't have to be jealous.

That might be possible for you but I don't see it happening for me in the near future.

me too.

FYI it looks like tivo let's you pay $129 for a full year of service and $399 for lifetime so it's still available.  it's just not featured prominently on their website.  I think you have to pay full retail for the box as well.

ober, can you network a TiVo?  i.e. can i watch something in the bedroom through the tivo in the living room over the home network?

I want to get away from cable TV, but FWIW I have had a Tivo and it rocked.  That said, twelve years later, they haven't improved it much.  IMO they have been exceedingly lazy in coming up with advances.  Multiple podcasts bitch about the same lack of innovation from Tivo.  Sad part is they are still best in category until you add in HTPC.  HTPC setups are more enthusiast based.  Very powerful, extremely flexible, and of nearly unlimited capability.  HTPC setups are more expensive up front and more complicated up front.  Once set up however they seem to be the cats ass.

I want simple and cheap.  Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, PC streaming (not in the Roku), and a few others would be nice.  Also I would expect that BlockBuster and or RedBox are way overdue to streaming.

I would love to abandon the networks and cable channels for a la carte instead.  May get the Roku just to try it.
