Digicam Recommendations needed
« on: January 20, 2007, 12:00:23 PM »
I currently have a Casio EX500 5MP... I love everything about it except for the fucking pictures it takes.  90% of them are fuzzy and they only come out good when there is a ton of light.  Red eye is always an issue too.

What I need:
5MP level.. I never take them at that resolution anyways.
Decent sized lcd screen
good point and shoot
CLEAR, good quality photos
fairly small camera... the one I have is in the 1oz per MP category
not too expensive... I want to sell my current one and buy a new one and hopefully spend less than $100 (I think I can get $150+ for mine with all the accessories I have)

What I don't care about:
view finder
digital zoom
accessories like extra lenses or anything
brand

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh... movies with sound would be nice... that's one thing I like about our current camera... the video is good quality and it has sound.

Looks pretty solid... do you know anyone that has one?  Have you read any reviews on it?

And yeah... Sunday is still good.

I was kinda curious if anyone has or know someone who has any from his "best cameras" picks in the 5 or 6-10 MP range.

Preference of battery type?

I think I might forever have a love for panasonic cameras now because of the fz5.  I have no experience with the cameras on that page though.

Yo.

I think one of my neighbors daughter (my age and wealthy as hell) has one.  I know he wants one as well and may already have it.  They are vacationing for two months in FL.

My family and I have the Cannons - or other versions of them (4 & 7 megapixle), I love them.  I've used steve's digicams for every camera I've purchased. Been happy everytime.

I have a Canon as well.  Just checked out the newer ones before Christmas and I would still get teh Samsung over the Canons.  Just a better feel, screen, and far more "pocketable".  Just me though.  I also like the ability to take lower light photos, something most smaller digicams BLOW at.

Whaddya thinkin Benny?

Still reviewing the options... not sure what to go with.

Side note: why the fuck are they selling 6MP cameras with a 16mb memory card?  "Here's a great camera... you can take 4 photos with it!"

I dunno, if I got a new large memory card with a new camera I'd start getting confused what pictures are on what.

I have an older version of this
(Pentax Optio S6). I think mine is 4mpx. It's been a good camera for me, good quality shots, lots of little features, video w/ sound, etc.. I'd recommend it.

My girlfriend has one of those super slim Nikon cameras (don't remember the model). It suffers a little in low light, but its a pretty slick camer other than that. It's completely flat but still has 3x optical zoom.

I've had several Sony Cybershots. I like them. Good optical zoom. Nice sized screen. They use memory sticks, and since I already have memory sticks it works nicely. When my current memory stick is too small to fit the photos I like to take, I just buy the cheap brand (SanDisk) version of the next bigger size and it works out nicely. A 1 GB stick should be plenty, although we use a 2GB and love it. There is no in camera memory for the versions I've used, which I like, but then again maybe in camera memory is faster or something. I like the burst mode - a necessity for taking pictures of squirmy babies -  it takes up to 8 shots in succession. The movies in our current camera (W-3 I think) are good quality and easily viewable on our computer. Our previous version the movies were too small to be interesting. However, both the movies and the burst mode tend to be dark unless the lights are on (e.g. taking a video of the baby going to sleep doesn't work well).

So in summary, I am quite pleased with our Sony Cybershot W-series and it appears to fit your requirements. However, I have very little experience with any other brands so I can't tell you how it compares.
