huh?  My point is, you go on vacation where you don't have access to off-load your pics... you're pretty limited with a small memory card.

Is this post in response to jkim's from the previous page?

You got it Ober.

The small cards are a waste of plastic.  I would not have less than a gig in the thing and I would carry a spare battery and gig card.

Yeah charlie.. sorry for the confusion.

I don't know about having 2 1 gig mem sticks... but I think you should have at least a 512 or a gig as a primary and something more than 16mb as a backup.

Saw a blurb on the news the other night.

The mentioned the Samsung as best in show with kudos for indoor pictures.

I like the look and the features of the Samsung, but there isn't enough info out about it yet.  Steve hasn't reviewed it yet either.  Plus, I think it's out of my price range.

From the research I've done, I think I'm going to go with the Canon SD630.  Looks like a pretty hot little camera and it's on the "tops" list from Steve (plus his conclusion said exactly what I wanted to hear... great picture quality with a ton of options).  Now I just have to get the best deal off of Ebay and sell my old one.

Thoughts?

Like I said I like my Canon.  The blurb I think was from CES.  It is a very new cam but represents the next gen of ultraportable digicams.

I was afraid the price would be a problem.  Phooey.  That sucks.

My Canon has performed perfectly and really has no drawbacks    IF   you consider its age.

In other words the Canon will do ya just fine.

Remember to shave you hand(s) so that the hair doesn't hang down in front of the lens!

:p

By the way, I'm going to be looking today and over the weekend, but if any of you are bored and want to look and find one for less than $250 with at least a 1 gig memory card, let me know! ;)

Thanks for that kermi... I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go one step above that.  The "out of box" one doesn't seem to have the cables or anything, plus I need the memory card and a case... and it wouldn't hurt to upgrade the battery.

I found a few more on Ebay with about the same options, but none had the extra battery... seems worth it for about $10 more from Newegg.

Just a quick update... LOVE the new camera.  Pics are tons clearer and the LCD is HUGE.  3"... although it's not the clearest LCD I've seen while taking pictures, it does a better job during review.

I like the menu system and there's definately a lot of cool features.  One thing this has that my old one didn't was the ability to zoom while doing video.  The other nice thing about it is that Windows XP picks it up as a device in the My Computer screen.  Bad news is, you have to install their software to get it to do that.  No plug and play with a default driver.

Overall, 9/10.

I've never encountered a digital camera that could zoom in while taking video, and I just put the memory card into a reader to avoid having to install software.

It's nice you like the camera though.  Post some pics!
