The new Frozen worth the see. I hear that it is nothing at all like the first and fairly dark without as catchy a soundtrack as the first. I was thinking of giving it a skip. Thoughts?
If you didn't "like" the first one and just had to put up with it because your kids liked it, then the 2nd one might not seem any better. But if you kinda didn't mind watching the first one, the new one is totally worth it. First off, the animation quality is insane... the characters are still cartoony, but when you look at the details, like even just the reflections off their clothes, but also the landscapes in the background are so photo realistic. There are definitely some dark moments book-marked by some good one liners and side-kick-comic-relief. Without spoiling a major plot point, I will say that anti-nationalists (like Mike
) will appreciate the "truth" revealed in the movie that sometimes, you're country is the ones who were assholes and it's never too late to make up for your historical mistakes. Other discussions points for older kids that you could get out of the movie include survivors guilt, coping with tradgedy and never giving up hope.
The sound track is not as catchy but it is really well orchestrated and performed. And it didn't stop my kids from belting out the lyrics, singing along in the theatre. One of my favorite song is not all that singable but the lyrics....talk about dark
I've seen dark before, but not like this
This is cold, this is empty, this is numb
The life I knew is over, the lights are out
Hello, darkness, I'm ready to succumb
I follow you around, I always have
But you've gone to a place I cannot find
This grief has a gravity, it pulls me down
But a tiny voice whispers in my mind
You are lost, hope is gone
But you must go on
And do the next right thing
Can there be a day beyond this night?
I don't know anymore what is true
I can't find my direction, I'm all alone
The only star that guided me was you
How to rise from the floor?
But it's not you I'm rising for
Just do the next right thing
Take a step, step again
It is all that I can to do
The next right thing
I won't look too far ahead
It's too much for me to take
But break it down to this next breath, this next step
This next choice is one that I can make
So I'll walk through this night
Stumbling blindly toward the light
And do the next right thing
And, with it done, what comes then?
When it's clear that everything will never be the same again
Then I'll make the choice to hear that voice
And do the next right thing
Also, Kristoff does this awesome 80's-style queen/journey-like song which is just awesome. (and the "video" in the movie is equally awesome)
