Wait, which game did you actually buy?  If its Oblivion, knucks advice is a bad idea. If its morrowind, its great.

I bought the very first one, (haven't played any of them), doesn't look very intuitive to cast spells. Never seems to work. I was wondering if i had to do anything special before being able to cast spells.

The very first one was released 17 years ago.

You'll level up fast, but so will everyone else and your only skills will be athletics and acrobatics

Also if you actually paid money in 2011 for Arena (the first Elder Scrolls game), I've got a bridge to sell you

Which ones have you played?  I kinda wish I had played from the beginning.

I started at Oblivion.

Recently I tried Morrowind.  It has not aged well.  Daggerfall isn't anything I am interested in.

I started playing at Morrowind.  It hasn't aged well, as knuck said, but there are tons of mods out there and it looks a lot better with those

I have a couple, but not gotten too deep into it.  I did play a full conversion called Nehrim that was really good, though.
