I was pretty surprised he was still alive, actually.  Still, it's too bad.  I remember watching him when I was a little kid.  He made science awesome :(

He had a kids' science show from the 50s until the early 80s.  It was really accessible, fun, and educational.  I still remember when he taught us about the wonders of dry ice and smashing bananas with hammers.

I think we can at least agree that Bill Nye and Mr Wizard are both way better than that hack Beakman, though

mr wizard totally rocked. I don't recall much because I was young when he went off the air but he showed me that water doesn't conduct electricity...but if you stick your salty hand in the electrified water your in for a shock.  Plus he powered a clock w/ a potato.

Bill Nye is awesome.  Beakman was a joke..... that show is a great example of how FCC requirements make for asinine Television.

huh, his nickelodeon show didn't end until 1991 .  I only remember watching it in the mid 80's when I was maybe 6 or 7 years old.  I suck at memory and don't recall a lot from my childhood.

I loved him.  I got his most recent podcast a couple of days ago.  It was called "Transparent Aluminum, fact or fiction?"

Odd that I have never seen him.  He must have been on when I was a kiddo.
