I would like to get my own domain to host some of the websites I have.  Can anyone suggest some good, reliable companies?

Also, what should I ensure that the company offers when I am looking into a webhosting company?  I know its a pretty vague question, any help would would be appreciated.

Thanks!

http://www.blaineiler.com (ES's host)
http://www.webhostfreaks.com
http://www.serverpowered.com
http://www.1and1.com

I've either used all of them or known someone that has and has recommended them highly.

What to look for?  It all depends on what you want.  For basics, I always make sure they provide things like subdomains, MySQL (I shoot for at least 5 DBs), PHP (version 5 preferrably), and obviously plenty of space/bandwidth.

I also personally require the use of cpanel and I like to have other programming options available (Perl), or ASP if you get on a Windows server, but I usually shoot for a Linux server.

I recommend dot5hosting. I'm using them for winter wonder LAN.

i second 1and1.com  great service thus far.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

I second 1and1.com. I've had no bad experiences, and I've had people tell me that the download speeds they get are really good (mp3's up to 7.8 MB)

their hosting plans are also really cheap.

another one I'd suggest: http://www.hostica.com/
I used to use them, and I had no complaints about their service.  I switched because 1&1 had a plan that gave close to what I was getting from hostica for a little less/month (talking a couple of dollars here)

Of course that was before I needed to be able to run PHP.  Now the 1&1 is more expensive than Hostica was/is, and if weren't for 1and1 including registration of my domain name, I'd have switched already.
