I switched to a mod-mic a while back.  Two reasons.  Nice headphones rule for determining sound positioning in a map, comfort, and audio quality.  And it is always the mic or the cable that fail. In a good headset the cord is easily replaced (as is the foam and such).  The mod mic is a quality and easily replaced mic.  Easy to pack when traveling too.

An increasing number have made this move in the gaming clan.  Everyone wants to use the headphones they use all day not a much lower quality gaming set.

The magnetic attachment hinge is awesome!
