also, for you C programmers, here are the rules:

They'd probably kick me off the project as I am infamous for writing bad recursive functions :D

I tried to explain the excitement to Mrs Herself as akin to a woman giving birth, "I can see...a wheel!". She was not impressed. :(

Shame on you. But then I dimly recall my dad waking me up after I fell asleep on the couch to see the first grainy pictures of the 1969 moon landings on a monochrome tv the size of a curiosity rover.

Aww... man. You mean we could watch it live? It might have been difficult but I would have tried to be in front of the TV or computer if I knew that.

NASA had a live stream, but it was mostly just watching geeks celebrate in the control room followed by some grainy thumbnails of dusty rover wheels... in other words, completely awesome.

tnpr had a cool story about the lead engineer behind the crane system a few days ago. I'm glad it all worked out :)

>>it really does look like you could just go outside and be alright.

that's what I thought too!

I wonder what the next step will be? A one way trip for a human being and just keeping them resupplied?

Why would you want to send prisoners to an awesome place like space and Mars?

Really we should just wrap inmates in a space blanket and strap some mortars to their ankles and say we are sending them to space prison.

Although I liked the nonlethal execution of the USA basketball team down the stretch. Good win.

why do they pack them with such low specs? My first guess would be battery power, but i would assume there is some solar assistance built in.

It's because it takes like 8 years to prepare and approve technology for space travel. They started in 2004 preparing the computer components. There's a good article about it somewhere on the interwebs.
