The 49ers almost had their first blackout since 1981.

Luckily they fired their coach which got everybody excited to go see the game. (Insert debbie downer face and wah-wah sound effect here.)

It seems like the Lions have almost had blackouts on every game this season, only to get an extension from the NFL and have some corporation buy 2000 tickets for employees at the last minute.  This time they didn't get the extension.

So what happens with a blackout?  Does the NFL fill in some other game in that slot or do I get 3 hours of infomercials?

I wouldn't know, I haven't had one since I was 4.

But I think they treat it like your team is on a bye.. you still get a double-header on one channel and one game on the other (unless it's a night game).

They just said on the radio here that the 1:00 slot (where the Lions were going to be) will be filled with a movie and back to back episodes of Cops.

Ugh.

Yeah, when I lived in Atlanta we had quite a few blackouts.  They never showed a different football game, I guess they felt the viewers shouldn't get rewarded by watching a more enjoyable game than the one we were getting blacked out from.

It really is.  I've always heard that the point was to convince people to go to the game, but I don't see how that would be accomplished.  I mean, I get what they think will happen, but I don't see it actually happening, especially with the economy in MI being the way it is.
